What is Shiatsu?
In contemporary society, there is a notable emphasis on intellectual capacity. The prevalence of screens in our lives amplifies this cognitive focus. However, human experiences are also embodied, and when these experiences are not fully integrated, they may present as physical tension or potentially contribute to illness.
My aim is to help you establish a deeper connection with your body through relational touch that I offer through shiatsu. This therapeutic approach allows your body to be acknowledged, potentially releasing blockages resulting from stress or unresolved experiences, and fostering increased freedom and vitality in your life.
Shiatsu has its roots in Chinese Medicine, and Anma (a traditional Japanese therapeutic bodywork) as well as Western Psychology. I use a combination of stretches and varied pressure to open up a dialogue with your body.
What to expect?
I practise from my treatment room in my house, near Charmouth, Dorset. A calm, private space.
Sessions are 60 minutes long. I offer single sessions (£50) as well as block bookings for three sessions (£120).
In our first session we will discuss your reasons for coming, your overall health and wellbeing and any specific areas of tension or concern.
Shiatsu is practised on a treatment mat and you will remain fully clothed. You’re advised to wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes (jogging bottoms, linen trousers, baggy T shirt etc.).
I recommend that you have a light meal 1-2 hours before your session and to be well hydrated.
